Reminders - World Fishing Day 23rd June - see details of local event at Aldercar below.
Welcome. On this page we are going to provide information that hopefully is of interest and use to our junior members. It will be updated when details of upcoming events etc. become known so please keep coming back every so often to have a look. Please also share this information with friends and other juniors who may not be DRAC members. We all know how great fishing is but we need to spread the message!
Not many people know this but..... June 23rd is World Fishing Day. Our nearest event is at Aldercar Lane Fishery. The venue is about 20 minutes by car from Derby, so you'll need to get a parent or other adult to take you. The postcode for satnavs is NG16 4HJ and the fishery website is http://www.aldercarlanefishery.co.uk
The event is described by the organisers as "a free angling taster day . The event will run in conjunction with a junior fishing match, showcasing the opportunities for people to get into fishing." The World Fishing Day website is http://www.worldfishingday.com
Aldercar Lane Fishery is also home to a large number of junior matches. These are a great opportunity to get into match fishing but they are also a way of just improving your general angling techniques. You don't have to be an ace junior angler to take part. Young anglers of all abilities participate, and help and tuition is always on hand. The next two matches are on the June 9th and 16th. A full list of these local junior matches is below and can also be found at the website http://juniorfishing.co.uk
This website provides a host of info about local fishing in our area and is well worth saving as a "favourite". Ian Wilkes, a Level 2 Angling Trust Coach runs the events and his contact details are on the website.
Finally a number of events aimed largely at junior anglers will be taking place in the Derby area during Go Fishing Month. On Thursday 16th August a session will be held from 3 pm until 7 pm at Mill Dam, an Earl of Harrington AC venue that is near the university and Markeaton Island. The event is aimed at beginners. However we could do with some more experienced juniors to assist with the coaching, so please let me know if you can help. On the Saturday 18th August from 10 am until 4 pm a similar event will be held at Woodrow's Pond, another Earl of Harrington water that is off Haslam's Lane, just by Derby Rugby Club. Then on Sunday 19th August from 10 am until 4 pm, DRAC are running masterclasses in fly fishing, lure angling and carp fishing. There will also be a BBQ!
More details about all these three Go Fishing Month events will be posted here shortly as the event organisation develops.
If you want to take part in any of the Go Fishing Month events, or need further information or clarification on any of the above please email me at

Please find below details of Saturday’s Junior Open League match at Aldercar Lane Fishery. Saturday 23rd June is a special event ‘World Fishing Day’ when events will be taking place across the world to promote Angling. Our Junior Open League match day has been enhanced by being the East Midlands Flagship event, one of only 4 World Flagship events across the country. As well as the junior match there will be an enhanced free coaching session between 10am and 2.00pm with three licensed coaches on hand for anybody to have a go at fishing. All equipment and bait will be available free of charge. We also understand that there will be a media presence during the day. Spread the word.
Lets see how many people we can get coming to the day.
