Junior News

Updated 14/9/18

Welcome. On this page we are going to provide information that hopefully is of interest and use to our junior members. It will be updated when details of upcoming events etc. become known so please keep coming back every so often to have a look. Please also share this information with friends and other juniors who may not be DRAC members. We all know how great fishing is but we need to spread the message!

1. Schools' Championship

Below is an exciting secondary school team event, which, if successful, is likely to become an annual event. Try and persuade a teacher or other adult to take you! The team just needs four members and they can be beginners. It's the taking part that matters.

2. Half term event - 31st October

The three National Fishing Month beginner events held in August were all successful. In total 34 juniors took part and all of these were first time anglers.

On 31st October (Wednesday of half-term) there will be a follow up event at Woodrow's Pond, Darley (off Haslam's Lane, opposite rugby club). It's free. Even if you are an experienced young angler it would good for you to come to help the others. Additionally we will be looking at awarding CAST awards as part of the day. Time is 10.30 until 2.30. Halloween outfits not required!

3. Pike

During the autumn/early winter it is likely that we will be holding a pike workshop for young anglers, which, amongst other skill development, will look at pike welfare and the safe unhooking of pike. Details later.

4. Aldercar Lane Matches for all abilities

Aldercar Lane Fishery Match Calendar below. Still some autumn dates left until end of season and it's for ALL abilities. Anyone 16 or under can take part and Ian the organiser, and others, are there to help. You don't need to be an ace angler.
