Junior News

Updated 14/9/18

Welcome. On this page we are going to provide information that hopefully is of interest and use to our junior members. It will be updated when details of upcoming events etc. become known so please keep coming back every so often to have a look. Please also share this information with friends and other juniors who may not be DRAC members. We all know how great fishing is but we need to spread the message!

1. Let’s Go Fishing Again!

A follow up session to the successful Let’s Go Fishing events held in the summer is planned for Wednesday 31st October.

The event will take place from 10.30 a.m. until 2.30 p.m. (but drop in is ok any time during that period) at Woodrow's Pond, Darley . For those that haven't been to this venue it is down a track off Haslam's Lane almost opposite Derby Rugby Club.

In addition to the type of fishing we did in August we'll also be trying new techniques including casting with a rod and a reel, and, subject to conditions, safety and development level, spin fishing in the river.

We'll also be recognising the developing skill level of the participants by providing access to the Angling Trust’s CAST awards. So if any DRAC juniors want to do CAST awards sign up and come along.

Would be participants please register by emailing Steve Clamp – s_clamp@hotmail.com

You don’t have to have attended one of the summer events to come.

The weather at the end of October is likely to be very different to that that we experienced in August so we'll aim to be active!

2. Schools' Championship

Below is an exciting secondary school team event, which, if successful, is likely to become an annual event. Try and persuade a teacher or other adult to take you! The team just needs four members and they can be beginners. It's the taking part that matters.

3. Pike

During the autumn/early winter it is likely that we will be holding a pike workshop for young anglers, which, amongst other skill development, will look at pike welfare and the safe unhooking of pike. Details later.

4. Aldercar Lane Matches for all abilities

Aldercar Lane Fishery Match Calendar below. Still some autumn dates left until end of season and it's for ALL abilities. Anyone 16 or under can take part and Ian the organiser, and others, are there to help. You don't need to be an ace angler.
