Derby Railway Angling Club
Founded in 1895 for employees of the Midland Railway, Derby Railway Angling Club has evolved alongside the railway industry over the past century. While much has changed, our commitment remains the same—ensuring a thriving club that meets the needs of both long-standing and new members. Our core objective, “to encourage the healthy art of angling and to acquire, develop, and protect waters for angling purposes,” is just as relevant today as it was over a hundred years ago.
We offer a diverse range of angling opportunities to suit all preferences, from coarse fishing on small still-waters, canals, and rivers to fly-fishing on Derbyshire’s picturesque streams and rivers.
As proud members of The Angling Trust and active partners in local environmental improvement initiatives, we are committed to conserving and enhancing the waters we manage.
For those who enjoy competitive angling, the Club provides match fishing facilities on the River Trent and the Trent & Mersey Canal (see our Match Booking Application Form for details).
Derby Railway Angling Club holds some of the most diverse and extensive fishing rights in the Midlands, offering:
- 40 acres of pools and lakes
- 13 miles of river coarse fishing
- 3 miles of canal fishing
- 4.5 miles of river trout and grayling fly-fishing
- 2 miles of small river and brook trout fishing
