Elite Pro League Lure Competition 17/05/25.

On 17th May we hosted Round Five of the Elite Pro League Lure Competition on the Black Pool, Basin and our section of the canal at Weston on Trent.
The organiser and WINNER was Paul Danby, one of our Club Bailiffs – Many Congratulations to him!
Here is Paul’s report on the match and a good insight into how the matches are run:
Elite Pro League Lure Competition 17/05/25.
30 competitors headed to the Trent & Mersey canal at Weston on Trent to fish the 5th round of the Elite Pro League.
At 8am everyone met at the Ukrainian Centre carpark for the briefing and competition times which were a 9am start and 4pm finish.
At 8.45am everyone left to get there chosen spots. Some ran down to Weston lock, some ran to black pool and the rest made their way on to the canal and stopped at a place that looked fishy. The competition card for round 5 was as follows.
5 x perch min length 15cm 2x pike no min length
1 x chub no min length
1 x zander no min length. The accumulated length of the above caught would give you your overall score card.
9am and the competition starts. The score jungle app that we use also starts at 9am and it was clear people were catching fish straight away with perch and pike captures being uploaded onto the app. To use the app you simply : submit a catch, take a photo which must also have your unique competition card visible, chose the species, enter the length and send to the app. When verified the catch gets uploaded to your card and lengths added to your overall score. You can also keep an eye on what other competitors are catching on the app and also see placing for the day. At 3pm though the visibility is switched off for the last hour so you can’t see what people are catching. Really plays tricks on your mind this one as you still need to catch or upgrade fish but you really want to know how other competitors are doing!
At 4pm we finished fishing and headed Back to the start point car park for the results. Luckily I managed to win the event but it was very close with only 4cm in it. Everyone enjoyed the day and said what a stunning section of canal it is. Hopefully we can hold a couple more events there in the future. Please see total captures for the day. There would be more perch landed on the day but if they’re undersize (15cm min) they wouldn’t be counted or measured
