Ukrainian Camp – Weston on Trent

This is the upstream limit of our fishing on the north bank, commencing one field above the old iron railway bridge, now used as a cycle path. Access to this section is via the Ukraine Camp, with parking available at the Old Cliff Inn, a short walk from the river. We also have fishing rights on the opposite bank (Lodge Farm section), accessible via Kings Newton.

The section has varied characteristics. The top two fields feature gravel runs and riffles, offering both float and bottom fishing, with catches including roach, chub, barbel, and dace.

Towards the bottom of the second field, opposite the Black Pool/Basin, the river bends and narrows before nearly doubling in width.

Below the Basin is a wooded area that is difficult to fish, followed by Parsons Meadow.

Here, the river is wide and slow. The first few pegs are 6-8 feet deep, shallowing to 2-3 feet before deepening again to around 6 feet near the pylons. From this point, it extends about a mile downstream to Kings Mills.
